November 2016 Consumer Safety Recalls

November 22, 2016

Foreign Material

H-E-B has issued a precautionary recall of its entire H-E-B Baby Food 2 pack 4 oz. cups product line. The H-E-B Baby Food 2 pack 4 oz. cups were removed from shelves out of an abundance of caution due to a customer report of a small piece of rubber found inside a single container of one variety of the product. H-E-B is encouraging customers who have any H-E-B Baby Food 2 pack 4 oz. cups in their pantries to return it to their nearest H-E-B store for a full refund. See a full list of flavors affected here.

Listeria Risk

Sabra Dipping Co., LLC is voluntarily recalling certain hummus products made prior to November 8, 2016, due to concerns over Listeria monocytogenes. The recall includes the products listed here. If you have this product with a “Best Before” date up through January 23, 2017, discard it. Consumers can find the code and “Best Before” date on the lid of each package.

Laceration Hazard

Skidders Footwear has recalled their children’s canvas tennis shoes as the rivets on the shoes have sharp edges, posing a laceration hazard. The recall involves shoes sold in three sizes: 12M, 18M and 24M. The shoes have white rubber bottoms and come in three different colors: navy blue fabric with orange rivets and laces, gray fabric with green rivets and laces, and denim colored fabric with pink rivets and laces. If you own these shoes, immediately take them away from children and contact Skidders Footwear at 866.636.1221 to receive a full refund.

Alarm Failure

Kidde NightHawk combination smoke/carbon monoxide (CO) alarms have been recalled. The alarm can fail to continue to chirp when it reaches its seven year end of life if the batteries are replaced, leading consumers to believe it is still working. This poses a risk of consumers not being alerted to a fire or CO incident in their home. If you own this alarm, immediately stop using it and contact Kidde directly at 855.239.0490 for a free replacement alarm based on date of manufacture or a discount on a new alarm.

Impact Injury Risk

Samsung top-load washing machines have been recalled as the washing machine top can unexpectedly detach from the washing machine chassis during use, posing a risk of injury from impact. If you own one of these washers, contact Samsung immediately at 866.264.5636 to receive one of the following remedy options. Consumers can choose (1) a free in-home repair that includes reinforcement of the washer’s top and a free one-year extension of the manufacturer’s warranty; (2) a rebate to be applied towards the purchase of a new Samsung or other brand washing machine, along with free installation of the new unit and removal of old unit; or (3) a full refund for consumers who purchased their washing machine within the past 30 days of the recall announcement. All known consumers will also receive a Home Label Kit that includes a control panel guide and additional safety instructions in the mail. Until you have received and installed a Home Label Kit, only use the delicate or waterproof cycles when washing bedding, water-resistant and bulky items.
