Think Safe, Ride Safe, Be Safe

By Tammy McKillip March 20, 2012

Springtime is here, and we're sending our kids back outdoors to play. Make sure they understand how to stay safe on city sidewalks, street crossings, bike trails or buses by sharing a fun and educational new Web site with them.

From school bus safety to car seat, pedestrian and bike safety, the goal of the new National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration's ‘Think Safe, Ride Safe, Be Safe!’ campaign is to provide child transportation safety guidance to families with young children. Parents and children can visit the campaign website (www.chuggington.com/safety) to download tip sheets and an activity book, play safety-based games, watch the campaign PSAs and take the campaign safety pledge- a promise to always buckle up, wear a helmet and cross the street with an adult.

To date over 400,000 people have taken the pledge to ‘Be Safe.’

 Safety Tips from Chuggington:

  • Hold an adult’s hand when walking.
  • Walk on the sidewalk.
  • If there’s no sidewalk, walk facing traffic.
  • No pushing or shoving when you walk.
  • Stop at the edge of the street when preparing to cross.
  • Look left-right-left for cars.
  • Don’t cross the street if a car is coming.
  • Use a crosswalk if you can.
  • Keep looking for cars as you cross the street.
