By Tammy McKillip April 15, 2014
Unplug the Heater

Time to unplug your Dyson Bladeless Portable Electric Heater - not just because spring is here, but because of the 82 incidents of short-circuiting, overheating, burning, and melting that have been reported with this product. Contact Dyson toll-free at (866) 297-5303 for information on receiving a free repair.

Choking Canopies

Ikea is recalling its children's bed canopies due to a strangulation hazard. There have been many incidents of children becoming entangled in the canopy fabric, including one report of a 7 month-old who was able to wrap the fabric around her neck several times. Remove the canopy, and return it to any Ikea for a full refund. You may also call Ikea at (888) 966-4532 for more information on this recall.

Exploding Fireplaces

Kozy Heat fireplace

Spring is just in time if you've been keeping warm and cozy by one of these Kozy Heat, Ambiance, or Stellar Hearth gas fireplaces or inserts. Time to shut off the gas valve, and step away from the flame, which can explode when a faulty module allows a gas build-up in the burner area. Call Hussong Manufacturing at (800) 253-4904, or visit Kozy Heat, Ambiance Fireplace, or Stellar Hearth for information on having the faulty ignition board replaced for free on your fireplace or insert.

Unstable Ski Straps
Kwicker snowboard binding

If you've managed to survive the ski season without a fall using K2 Kwicker and Kwicker BC snowboard bindings, consider yourself lucky! The bindings are apt to pop open unexpectedly, which could cause a nasty tumble on the slopes. If you have these bindings, stop using them, and contact K2 Sports at (800) 985-2191, or send them an email to get your free replacement bindings.

Laptop Battery Burn

Lenovo battery pack

If you've got a ThinkPad notebook computer, unplug it, and remove the battery! The battery packs can overheat and cause damage to your computer or even a fire. Check your model's information against the recall alert, then, if you have a recalled model, contact Lenovo at (800) 426-7378 for information on receiving a free replacement battery pack. You may use your ThinkPad plugged in without the battery with a power cord.

Rogue Mowers Take Off Without You

BigDog Diablo
Just in time for the mowing season, Excel Industries is recalling their BigDog and Hustler Mowers - bummer! But not as big a bummer as having the mower take off on its own after you leave the seat, which is exactly what could happen if you continue to use this product. Contact Excel Industries by calling (316) 327-1345, or visit Big Mowers or Hustler Turf online for more information about this recall and to schedule an appointment for a free seat repair.

Shocking Lamp Lights

Ace Clamp-On LED Work Light

Lighting your workspace with Ace Clamp-On LED Work Lights? You could be in for a nasty shock. The bushings inside the lights can fail and allow the cord wiring to become exposed, creating a shock or burn hazard. Stop using this product immediately, and contact Ace at (888) 827-4223, email them for information, or return them to your local Ace store for a full refund.
