Safety Recalls

By Tammy McKillip September 16, 2014
Sharp Shoes

These shoes are made for walking, but if your little one is strutting about in Livie and Luca's “Carta” or “Cotton” Children’s Shoes, they could be headed for a pain in the foot. The metal thread that is inside the liner of the shoe can poke through and cause a laceration to little feet. Remove the shoes, and contact Livie and Luca at (888) 548-5822 for information on receiving a full refund for this product.

Black and Red Yamaha 2014 model SR10R (“SRViper”)
Hot Snowmobile Hazard

Before winter arrives, do a garage safety check. If you rely on a Yamaha snowmobile to get around your property in the winter, you'll need to contact the company to arrange for a free repair. Turns out the fuel hose joint can leak, creating a fire hazard. Call Yamaha at (800) 88-YAMAHA, or contact your local dealer to schedule the free repair.

JVC Emerald series television, model EM42FTR (front)

Tipsy Televisions

Take care if your family watches a JVC 42 inch flat screen television. The stand can crack and cause the TV to tip over, creating a risk of injury. Turn off the TV, and remove the base. Put it somewhere out of reach, then contact AMTran Video at (855) 328-6650 to receive a free replacement television neck.

FGX International Recalls Children’s Sunglasses

Lenses Good; Lead Bad

Seems like you can't win for losing. If you have been conscientious enough to protect your little one's eyes by buying them a pair of these sunglasses manufactured by FGX International, good for you, and PUT THEM AWAY. The surface of the sunglasses contains excessive amounts of lead - a heavy metal that is linked with brain and nervous system damage in children. Call FGX at (877) 277- 0104 for information on returning them for a free replacement pair or a full refund.

Great Innovations Clean Mist Humidifier
Drippy Humidifiers

As summer turns to fall, and the air inside becomes drier, many families are reaching for their humidifiers right about now. If you have the Great Innovations Ultrasonic Clean Mist humidifier, though, you'll want to shelve it again. Water can drip onto the base and get inside the unit, overheating the circuits and creating a risk of fire. Contact Great Innovations at (844) 600-1370 to receive a free repair kit. For more information on this recall, visit the CPSC.gov page.

Recalled probes have only two crimps where connected to the braided cable.

Poison Probe

Here's another safety device gone rogue. If you're checking the internal temperature of your food using an iDevices cooking thermometer probe, stop chewing that meat, and don't swallow. The plastic insulator inside the tube is supposed to be heat resistant, but it isn't. This can cause it to melt into your food. And we all know that ingesting plastic isn't good. Contact iDevices at (888) 313-7019 to receive your free replacement product.

Orbea Avant Bicycle

Front Fork Causes Falls

Orbea is recalling its Avant bicycles due to a faulty front fork, which can crack when the bike is being ridden. This poses the danger of a fall, so if you've got this bike, stop using it, and contact Orbea at (888) 466-7232 for a free replacement fork and installation.

Recalled Cottage Retreat II twin over twin bunk bed

Loose Rails Sink Sleepers

Hard to get a good night's sleep knowing your bunk-bed might dump you onto the floor in the middle of the night. But if your child is sleeping in an American Woodcrafter bunk, that's exactly what could happen. The rails that support the mattress can break, sending your child tumbling out of bed. Let them sleep with you for a while, and put their bed away. Call Haverty at (888) 428 - 3789 to arrange for a free replacement rail installation.

Recalled PTAC unit

The good news is that air conditioning season is almost over, and heater season isn't quite here yet. The bad news is your air conditioner or heating unit could catch on fire - if you have a Goodman Company product, anyway. Check your A/C or heating unit here, and if it is an Amana, Century, Comfort-Aire, or Goodman and York International Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner/Heat Pump unit, unplug it immediately. The power cords may overheat and cause burns or a fire. If you have an Amana, Goodman or York International-branded unit call (800) 366-0339. For Comfort-Aire and Century-branded units call (877) 442-4482 for information on receiving a free replacement power cord. Residential users may also request a free power cord installation and check.
