December Product Recall Information

December 16, 2014
Painful Pop-Up

It looks a lot like Dad's, but this Leatherman Multi-Tool for kids 9 and up may be a lot more dangerous than the grown-up version. The blade lock mechanism is faulty and can release the blade when your child isn't expecting it to pop up, causing a laceration hazard. Take the tool away from your child if the optional blade-knife is installed, and don't install it if you haven't already. Contact Leatherman at (888) 212-2438 for information on receiving a replacement tool.

Tyco Fire Protection Recalls Simplex Fire Alarm Control Panels
Not Alarming

Tyco is recalling its Simplex Fire Alarm Control Panels because due to a faulty chip that may cause battery failure, which would leave consumers vulnerable to personal or property damage in the event of a fire. SimplexGrinnel and Tyco are notifying their customers directly, but if you have not heard from them and have this product, contact Tyco at (800) 746-7539 for more information on having your circuit board inspected and replaced.

HobbyZone Super Cub S Radio-Controlled Aircraft
Fear of Flying

Your child may be in for a crash landing if he's flying a HobbyZone Super Cub S Radio-Controlled Aircraft. The problem lies in the power supplies and chargers, which can overcharge the battery, causing the batteries to explode or catch fire. There have been 18 reports of these incidents so far, so ground your flier, remove the plane, and contact Horizon Hobbytoll-free at (877) 504-0233 to receive a replacement charger.

Model Number XB 017
Un-helpful Helmet

Don't expect your Uvex Sports bicycle helmet to protect your head in a crash. They don't comply with CPSC impact safety standards and have a faulty chin strap that can detach and cause the helmet to slip off your head. Stop using it, and contact UVEX Sports Inc. toll-free at (844) 767-0656 to receive a new helmet or a full refund.
