Christmas Tree Safety

November 28, 2017
Macaroni Kid wishes everyone celebrating Christmas a wonderful holiday season! While decking your halls and trimming your tree, be sure to keep your family safe by following these important tree safety tips.

Christmas Tree Safety Tips

  • Place your Christmas tree away from radiators, your fireplace, curtains, or other flammable items.
  • Be sure to keep your tree moist by adding fresh water to the stand every few days.
  • Keep paper ornaments and other potentially combustible materials away from tree lights.
  • NEVER use lit candles on a Christmas tree! This quaint custom was retired with good reason.
  • Place breakable ornaments on higher branches where they cannot be easily knocked off by children or pets.
  • Keep food ornaments, such as candy canes or dried gingerbread ornaments, away from pets.
  • Make sure your tree lights are UA approved and are not frayed, broken, or burnt out.
  • Do not overload extension cords. Plug no more than three sets of lights into an extension cord to reduce the chances of overloading your circuits.
  • Never leave your tree plugged in overnight or when you leave the house.
  • Keep all paper packages away from tree lights to prevent a fire hazard.
